Shadow Work

Working with disowned or rejected aspects of the self.

Advanced definition

Shadow work is meeting the parts of yourself you have hidden, denied, or projected onto others — not to indulge them, but to bring them into honest awareness so they stop running you from the dark.

Law of One context

Aligns with the principle that the negative is also the Creator. What is rejected as 'not me' tends to return as catalyst until it is acknowledged.

Common misunderstanding

Shadow work is not acting out your worst impulses. Acknowledgment is not enactment.

Healthy application

Use a journal, an honest friend, or a trained therapist. The point is to see clearly, not to dramatize.

Cautions

  • Severe trauma material belongs with a qualified therapist, not a self-help practice alone.
For reflection

"What trait do I most despise in others — and where does that live in me?"
